It all started in 2016 with an ad on Facebook: bassist Jasper Verhulst from the Netherlands was looking for Turkish musicians to form a band with traditional Turkish sounds. Merve and Erdinc then got in touch, and Chris and Thijs soon followed – the band was born.golden day“, which translates to “golden day.”

In 2018, “Altin Gün” released their debut album “on“, which largely contained new interpretations of the repertoire by Turkish artist Neşet Ertaş. the song on it “goca world“ eventually became a hit. The band was also able to perform at “kexp”, which brought them international attention. The second album followed in 2019.night“, which even received a Grammy nomination in the “Best World Music Album” category the following year. The award didn’t work out, but they did follow up with two more albums in 2021: “road” and “in addition“. They also performed at one of the most important festivals in the world, namely “Coachella”.

In 2023, Altin Gün finally returned to their roots and voted with the album “ask“Folkier sounds again. Another highlight in 2023: the band was able to contribute a song for the video game soundtrack “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” as well as a soundtrack for an Apple TV advertisement. Be that as it may: in addition to releasing music, the band repeatedly went on extensive concert tours and always impressed with energetic live shows and countless opportunities to shake a leg – the upcoming European tour finally brings the group back to Vienna, namely to the Gasometer! If you feel like moving around to a wild mix of music, it’s better to get a ticket today instead of tomorrow – it’s worth it, especially because singer and founding member Merve will be on stage for the last time!
