Television program of 2023

One of the main prizes of the evening was for ‘Television Program of 2023’. That went to “Down the Road”, the program in which Dieter Coppens travels with several young people with Down syndrome. The program was also nominated last year, but did not make it. ‘Down the road’ beats ‘De Verraders’, ‘De Verhulstjes’ and ‘Peace on earth’.

Media personality of 2023

The prize for media personality, which was presented as the apotheosis of the show, went to Fien Germijns. Somewhat surprisingly, she beat Pommelien Thijs, who was also nominated and had already taken home one award after another in recent days. Germijns was clearly moved when she received the award.

Online personality of 2023

The striker was kicked off by online personality of 2023. It went to Elisabeth Lucie Baeten, who beat Elodie Gabias, Lorentia Veppi and also Acid. Baeten gained great popularity in a short time with her critical sketches as PR lady Katrien, who made fun of flattering politicians such as Conner Rousseau.

Best fiction series of 2023

Here the prize went to ‘Knokke Off’, the successful fiction series starring Pommelien Thijs and Willem De Schryver. The series beat ‘Assizes’, ‘Familie’, and ‘1985’.

Radio program of 2023

Announced by a cover that Koen Wouters performed of Will Tura’s ‘Life is beautiful’, ‘Sven & Anke’ by Joe was put in the spotlight. Sven Ornelis and Anke Buckinx got it from ‘De sweet inval’ (Radio 2), ‘Team morgen’ (Play Nostalgie) and ‘Vincent live’ (Qmusic).

There is a podcast in 2023

Lieve Scheire received the award for best podcast for ‘Nerdland monthly overview’. He took the opportunity to point out what a rich medium podcast has become. They take it from ‘The smartest person: the morning after’, ‘The people’s jury’, and ’22 minutes of stupid questions’. De Standaard was also nominated, with the podcast ‘Lacroix, I was a gangster’, but did not make the final shortlist.

Newcomer from 2023

According to voters, the best new TV program of 2023 is Boris, the Play4 program in which Jeroom Snelders travels through Canada with friends Bockie de Repper and Jonas Geirnaert to scatter the ashes of his deceased brother. Boris was the top favorite and was tipped by many as a likely winner. Boris took it from ‘The Story of Flanders’, ‘Destination X’ and ‘Special Forces’.

Impact Prize 2023

The so-called ‘Impact Prize’ was, as previously announced, awarded to Godforgotten. That documentary spotlighted sexual abuse in the Flemish Catholic Church. Creators Ingrid Schildermans and Ibbe Daniëls used their speech to urge politicians to “work on the parliamentary investigation committee”, which was set up in the aftermath of the program. “For the truth, and only the truth, will save us,” they quoted the oldest witness of the documentary, who has since died.

Career Award

Presenter Koen Wauters was, unexpectedly for him, honored with the Career Award, an award that should honor his entire career. “But I’m still so young?” Wauters responded. “I hope I can make television for a long time,” he concluded.

Breakthrough

Flemish Minister of Media Benjamin Dalle (CD&V) presented the 2023 Breakthrough Award to Aaron Blommaert. He praised Blommaert as a multi-talent who can be seen on many platforms and channels. Last year Gloria Monserez won the prize. In a comedy sketch, Dalle was ‘tortured’ by an angry Monserez who wouldn’t hand over her prize. When Dalle said she could keep it, Monserez left the room, after which Bart De Wever (N-VA) continued to torture Dalle.
