Taylor Swift’s lawyers are threatening legal action against the Florida college student who tracks the private planes of celebrities and public figures, including Swift. According to CNN, Jack Sweeney confirmed on Tuesday that he received a cease-and-desist letter from Swift’s lawyers over social media accounts he runs that track Swift’s flights. This news was first published by The Washington Post.
Sweeney, who also drew the ire of billionaire Elon Musk for tracking his plane trips, manages accounts on various social media platforms using publicly available flight data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Musk previously said that these accounts pose a “safety risk” to him and his family. The letter from Swift’s attorneys accuses Sweeney of engaging in “harassing and harassing behavior” and disregarding public safety.
Sweeney denied any harmful intentions, stating that he is gathering public information and believes in transparency. However, Swift’s lawyers warned that if Sweeney continues to publish information tracking Swift’s jet travel, she will pursue legal action. A representative for Taylor Swift declined CNN’s request for comment.
In recent weeks, interest has intensified about Swift’s upcoming travels and whether she will be able to return to the United States from her overseas tour in time to see her boyfriend Travis Kelce at the Super Bowl. Last week, the Japanese embassy in the US even tweeted a statement stating Swift could make it to Las Vegas in time for the big game if she left Tokyo at night after her concert.
