This year is just beginning, but, as is tradition, the first months started with the premiere of great series on the different streaming platforms.

The year began with the long-awaited premiere of True Detective: Night Land, which is a miniseries that represents season 4 of one of HBO’s best crime thriller series in its history. The season was directed by the Mexican Issa Lopez who combined elements of horror and mystery to create a story of death, secrets and supernatural events that did not cease to surprise until the end.

But that was just one of the big releases of 2024, and the list grew month by month, adding titles like The Knights by Guy Ritchie, and the long-awaited Live Action about Avatar: The Last Airbender, and that was just in the first three months.

The best series of 2024 (so far)

Avatar: The Last Airbender – Netflix

This series does not surpass the animated one, but it is a very good adaptation (despite some details that are not ideal). The series begins when two brothers discover a boy frozen in an ice sphere. Soon, they discover that he is not a normal child, he has been locked up there for hundreds of years and is also the Avatar, the only person who can control the power of the 4 elements, who must also protect humanity and help establish peace between the destinies kingdoms of water, fire and earth.

Shogun – Disney+

This epic series is inspired by the famous novel by James Clavell and in some real events. The series follows the character of John Blackthorne, a 17th century British navigator who arrives on the shores of Japan along with what remains of his crew. John arrives at a point full of conflict, where the Portuguese Catholics already have great influence on the island and power is divided between 5 powerful men who are waiting for the next ruler to be old enough to take power. So John must not only find a way to survive, he must gain allies, try to understand the language and customs of a world very different from his own, and stay alive to help his captured men.
