Hony Estrella Invested 40 Million Pesos in Wardrobe for Soberano Awards, Sparks Controversy
Actress and communicator Hony Estrella recently revealed that she invested about 40 million pesos in her wardrobe to present the Soberano Awards, sparking controversy and alarm among social media users. The hefty amount caught the attention of many, including communicator and candidate for deputy for the National District, Selinée Méndez, who stated that the figure is false.
Méndez expressed her concerns on the program “Al Mediodia Radio,” emphasizing that it is not fair to provide inaccurate information regarding economic situations in the country. She acknowledged her experience in budgeting and production for the event in previous years, suggesting that the actual cost is close to the total realization of the award show, but not as high as claimed by Estrella.
The candidate for deputy for the People’s Force Party highlighted the artistic value of dresses and the opportunity for designers to showcase their work at the awards ceremony. She advocated for greater diversity and inclusion in the selection of clothing and criticized the monopoly that may exist in the industry.
Méndez raised important points about the disparity between extravagant spending on wardrobe and the prevalent poverty in the country. She emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in budgeting for such events, noting that the reported amount of 40 million pesos was not authorized by relevant entities like Cervecería Dominicana and Acroarte.
Estrella, who wore approximately 13 dresses along with jewelry and shoes, defended her investment by breaking down the costs, including fabric, jewelry, shoes, and payment for her team. She clarified that the production also contributed to covering expenses for her team, in addition to her payment for hosting the award show.
The controversy surrounding Estrella’s wardrobe expenses at the Soberano Awards highlights the debate over extravagance versus necessity in the entertainment industry. As discussions continue, it remains to be seen how future award shows and events will approach budgeting and expenditure regarding wardrobe and production costs.
