The electric Mustang but with the scent of petrol

by admin

Electric yes but with the smell of gasoline of the past. One in five motorists say that the smell of gasoline is the element they would miss the most when shifting to an electric vehicle, and at least 70% say they would miss the smell of gasoline to some extent. The latter has also been classified as a more popular smell than both wine and cheese and almost on the same level as the smell of new books.

It is the result of a survey commissioned by Ford, which has created a premium fragrance for those wishing to experience the performance of the new all-electric Mustang Mach-E GT. The automaker revealed the fragrance during the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an annual event that attracts motoring enthusiasts from around the world. The perfume, which is not available for purchase, is part of a project Ford is pursuing to dispel myths about electric cars and convince traditional car enthusiasts about the potential of this alternative.

The Mach-Eau fragrance was created in synergy with the Olfiction company, with ingredients that bring distinctive characteristics to its creation path. The starting point was to examine the chemicals that are emitted from car interiors, engines and gasoline.

This research also revealed the smell of benzaldehyde, similar to that of almonds, emanating from the interior of cars, and of para-cresol, a key note for creating the rubbery smell of tires. These were mixed with ingredients such as blue ginger, lavender, geranium and sandalwood which added a metallic, smoky and further chewy accent. An element reminiscent of the animal world, especially the equestrian world, has also been included to underline the Mustang heritage.
