The Government made official the public media intervention for one year and designated the officials within the Chief of Staff who will be in charge of carrying out the process.
The measure was published this Monday in the Official Gazette, through the decree 117/2024under the signature of the president Javier Miley and the Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos. It covers Educate; Télam, Argentine Radio and Television and Public Contentwhich includes the Public TV, Meeting, Pakapaka, DeporTV and the platform Tell.
The Executive appointed in the role of auditor Diego Martin Chaherwho will be accompanied by the deputy auditor Diego Sebastian Mariaswhich will work within the orbit of the agency led by the Chief of Staff Nicolas Posse.
As indicated in the regulations, the designated auditors will have the powers that the respective statutes of the intervened companies confer to the Board of Directors and/or its president, particularly those established in the aforementioned decree. In turn, the Chief of Staff may extend the intervention only once.
Chaher and Marías will have the responsibility of “Develop a reformulation, readjustment and action plan for societies”which will be considered by the Government, to evaluate, modify the Staff Regulations of the organization or approve a new one and modify the contracting regulations of works, goods and services.

Among other things, the interveners may modify the name of the organizationswith prior approval of the Executive, review purchasing and contracting administration and arrange a general audit about the state of the companies and their facilities.
In turn, they will be able “designate and remove officers and staff of each of the aforementioned companies”although the decree clarifies that this “is only illustrative and does not limit in any way the functions of the Comptroller and the Deputy Comptroller that may be linked to other regulatory aspects, audit actions and sanctions, economic-financial aspects and the protection of the rights of users”.
In case “any anomaly is detected”, both officials “They must accurately report its economic significance and the impact it causes or has caused on the managementproviding all of the respective information or working documents and advising on the corresponding actions and measures.”
In line with the ruling party’s premise of reducing State spending, the objective of privatizing public media is “operate and maintain companies, in order to optimize administrative management with a view to making them sustainable”.
In this framework, the decree presented this Monday also indicates that “The Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers will arrange the necessary adjustments in the Budget of the National Public Administration for the purposes of meeting the requirements that arise as a consequence of this act.”
