Sofia Vergara faces legal trouble over Netflix series

Michael Corleone, the son of notorious South American drug trafficker Griselda Blanco, recently filed a lawsuit against actress Sofia Vergara and the streaming platform Netflix for the unauthorized use of his mother’s image and name in the series “Griselda.” The lawsuit claimed that Corleone had not given authorization for the use of his mother’s likeness or identity in the production.

Vergara not only played the woman who was murdered in 2012 in the series, but she was also the executive producer of the story which was a free adaptation of Blanco’s life. Despite the legal proceedings, Netflix released the series on January 25, instantly becoming a top-rated show.

Corleone alleged that he had been in contact with the producers since 2009 to develop a book and a program about his mother’s life, but was left unaware of the making of the Netflix series until seeing it in the media. However, a month after filing the lawsuit, an out-of-court agreement was reached between both parties, although the details were not disclosed.

This settlement resulted in the dismissal of the complaint with prejudice, meaning that the issue cannot be revisited in the future. As for Corleone, he is now 45 years old and has been involved in various projects, including writing a book and participating in a reality show called “Cartel Crew” in 2019. He expressed that his participation in the show was a way to show that someone who emerged from a similar world can change their life.
