Total security? Here is the car that reads everything that happens around it

ROME – The evolution of technologies developed to increase car safety is proceeding at full speed and Nissan has just announced its new system called “Ground Truth Perception”. This new advanced driver assistance technology integrates information from latest generation Lidar, radar and cameras in real time. Thanks to these high performance devices, the system is able to offer a quick and accurate reading of the environment around the vehicle, detecting with extreme precision the shape and distance of objects that may be encountered along the route.

The “engine” of the system is a sophisticated algorithm that instantly processes all the information coming from the various devices, evaluates them and automatically activates the car’s steering and brakes to avoid a possible collision. In addition, the technology developed by the Japanese company can also detect slowed traffic and road obstacles in the distance and intervene accordingly by adopting the most appropriate maneuvers. “It is important for customers to feel safe in their car – said Takao Asami, senior vice president, global research and development – and, looking to the future of autonomous driving, we believe that Nissan’s Ground Truth Perception technology will make a significant contribution. in this sense”.

The new Nissan technology is the result of a collaboration with leading companies for research and development and, for example, the new generation Lidar, a key element of the Ground Truth Perception, is the result of the partnership with Luminar. The collaboration with Applied Intuition, a company at the forefront of simulation technologies, has allowed the development of advanced collision avoidance systems.

This new technology is part of the long-term strategic plan “Nissan Ambition 2030”, which provides for the development of vehicle control systems, based on the latest generation of Lidar, and is aimed at preventing accidents, becoming fundamental with the spread of autonomous driving. . According to the forecasts of the Japanese house, its “Ground Truth Perception” technology will be ready by the mid-2020s, and will be available on all new models by fiscal year 2030.
