After the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice suspended the elections for the governorship in San Juan, the citizens of that province could only choose on Sunday those who will occupy the 36 available seats in the provincial Legislature, in addition to 19 municipal and respective mayors deliberative councils, It is not yet known what will happen to the candidacy of Governor Sergio Uñac.
Already entered at noon, the president went to vote at a school in Pocito, occasion in which he reiterated his criticism of the Highest Court, insisting that “complied with the ruling (which suspended the gubernatorial elections) but don’t share it. In addition, he described the day as a “rare and unprecedented event”.
“We have complied with the ruling of the Supreme Court. We do not share it, of course, but we comply with it. So all the categories are being voted except governor and vice, a rare, unprecedented event, but we are respectful and abide by the ruling,” said the provincial official once outside the dark room.
In this sense, he reiterated: “I took the path of complying with the ruling. I am a lawyer, my profession is that, and I cannot not abide by it. I may not share it, which is what I am expressing, but you have to abide by it.”
In any case, Uñac insisted with reproaches to the Supreme Court and questioned that “There will be a chamber made up and there will be no governor”. “Therefore the ruling did not contemplate that,” he said and suggested that “It was an extemporaneous measure” based on the little anticipation with which the ruling that suspended the elections this Sunday was issued.
“If it was 30 days, perhaps we would not be voting today, or we would be voting with complete ballots, with all the categories. But three days before, the inter-American declaration of human rights says that the political rights of society must not be violated. Society told me that it wanted to vote and define everything“, he added.
In addition, the provincial president pointed against the General Auditor of the Nation, Miguel Ángel Pichetto, and stated: “The only thing I know is that he anticipated in San Juan, a week before, what the Court did a week later. He came here a week before the suspension and said “the Court has to rule because this person is disqualified.”
Sergio Uñac: “The Supreme Court suspended our will to choose”
He also added: “I believe in Justice, I mean it. I believe that Justice is going to be issued and I invite you all to read the previous Article 175 and the subsequent 175, you will see that the disability or link between the governor and the vice president is eliminated, also at the moment where the Constitution was modified I was mayor I did not change the Constitution“.
“The constitution entitles me to one more period”Uñac affirmed and concluded: “You have to stick to what the constitutions say, and if you don’t like it, you have to promote a constitutional change, a reform. The basic thing for a country is respect for the institutions, and the violation of three days before paralyzing an election with a triggered process and a finished campaign, is suspicious“.
