Mayor Eduardo Accastello announced the purchase of vaccines against dengue to apply to minors between 4 and 10 years old from the city. The priority will be those who have already had or are currently experiencing the disease, since the risks of a second infection are more lethal.
The president announced that will authorize the direct purchase of vaccines in an exceptional procedure for the child population. “She is the most exposed to a second infection, with a 50% chance of death,” she said.

Accastello, in criticism of the National State, considered that “we are in a state of emergency and national policies do not exist”, therefore “the municipality, even with very limited resources, has made this decision”
Likewise, he stressed that the situation is very complex and asks for everyone’s collaboration “so that we become aware.” “Dengue is here to stay,” he said. He described that the state’s efforts will not be effective if there is no commitment from the private sector and society. He reiterated that the peak is expected at Easter.

From August, the infection will again be “very hard, especially because of what the second contagion means.”
Prevent and buy vaccines
“We want to prevent it, for that, even though the vaccine is very expensive, the municipality is going to allocate the funds that are necessary, at least to care for the children,” he said.
In that sense, he explained that they are working together with the Undersecretariat of Education to carry out, together with the Ministry of Health, a survey of all children who have already had dengue or are experiencing the disease.
They will be the first to be vaccinated, after four months as indicated by the health protocol, he indicated.
