VOLUME
Calm before the storm
(Punk Rock | German Rock)
Label: NRT-Records
Format: (EP)
Release: 29.03.2024
This release not only breaks the boundaries of the genre but is also captivating
The name LAUTSTÄRKE carries a clear message: Since their debut with the album “Zurück Zu Dir” in 2018, the band from Euskirchen has not hesitated to raise their voice against social injustices. The current EP has five songs and each one has its own video. You can expect a well-mixed portion of German punk, rock, pop beats and a few surprise elements.
“Schöner Tag” is the name of the first track and the lead guitar starts at first as if it were silenced, very quiet upstrokes with delay and then it starts. First whohoo chorus, the kick drum hits hard, the snare whips forward and the overdrive guitars accelerate. In the verse, the lead guitar becomes quieter again, almost clean, but plays a nice choppy melody while the kick drum continues to push it. André Dederichs’ lyrics come directly and with a lot of power. It then continues up-beat until the chorus! The second verse continues with a lot of energy, but the band keeps it exciting with small but subtle nuances. After the second chorus it goes seamlessly into bridge, rhythm change and then a small filter effect on the vocals and it goes towards the finale. Great start to the EP!
The second number is called “Life”. The guitars start again and the rather clean lead guitar and the rhythm overdrive guitars complement each other very well again. The same applies to the chorus, a nice melody riff from the lead and a lot of power from the rhythm guitars. These are nice in the background and at the transition into the second verse there is a short lick from the guitar, even with a key change, inventive and fits well. In the bridge it starts again with a woohoo chorus, while the guitar plays a solo riff in the background. But there are still a few traces added to the vocals, and even with the falcon and in the finale Andre’ really gets going again.
On the “beach” it will be quieter and, above all, romantic. The vocals and acoustic guitar start off before the downstroke overdrive guitars join in. Here too the sound is well balanced. Consistently strong performance on the instruments and vocals.
In “Window” it starts again with hard German rock, but then at the 00:13 second there is suddenly a shift towards trap. The electronic drums replace the rock drums, but boy does it fit. In the chorus there is again a good portion of German rock. And in the second verse it seamlessly transitions back to trap rap. Very cool crossover, well mixed!
Haha, yes the boys are actually covering this classic “My Little Green Cactus”, which most of us probably know from elementary school, and yes all the verses are sung, and yes again, the chorus is also well behaved in the polyphonic melody sung and in terms of the timbre it gets really dark at times.
German rock fans, watch out if you don’t know the four guys from Euskirchen (near Cologne) – LAUTSTÄRKE has got you covered with new material. Pressing drums, hard guitars, combined with melodic riffs and direct lyrics.
