With a goal from Dybala, Roma beats Salernitana 2-1 in Serie A

ROME (AP) — Daniele De Rossi’s dream debut as Roma coach was extended by stringing together his second victory by beating Salernitana 2-1 in Serie A on Monday.

De Rossi took the reins after coach José Mourinho was fired on January 16 and emerged victorious against Verona four days later.

Their second victory was thanks to the scores of Argentine Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini in the second half. The capital club climbed three places to fifth.

Dybala opened the scoring in the 51st minute by taking a penalty after Giulio Maggiore’s foul on Gianluca Mancini.

Pellegrini increased the lead 15 minutes later by taking advantage of the home team’s defensive indifference. Salernitana’s defense left him alone at the far post to touch Rick Karsdorp’s center and beat Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Grigoris Kastanos scored with a header in the 70th, but Salernitana suffered its fourth straight defeat.

The Salerno-based club has not beaten Roma since 1999 and remains at the bottom of the table, five points behind penultimate Empoli.
