The territory has lost a “giant of education”, as his colleagues called him, “a kind person with a great culture”. Yesterday the last farewell to Livio Goletto, former head teacher, professor and man active in local politics. He had just turned 70. He died in his home in Rivarolo after having fought tenaciously against a bad disease.
Passionate about football and sports, a huge fan of Turin, a lover of good food, Goletto had begun his professional career as a teacher at the elementary school in the Mastri district. Once he won the competition, he was principal in San Maurizio, at the Gozzano middle school in Rivarolo and at the Cognengo comprehensive school in Castellamonte. He was retired since 2014. An active member of the Spi-Cgil, an independent militant of the left, he was elected city councilor in the 1990s and had a decisive role in the establishment of the political laboratory which, in Rivarolo, had contributed to the election of Edoardo Gaetano as mayor of the city. «I met Livio Goletto about twenty years ago, when I started my job as a school director – recalls his colleague Federico Morgando – he always tended to play down even the most complex situations, but when the problem arose he was ready to solve it. He always had a photo of the Bull in the office. Jovial and welcoming, he was an example for everyone ». A person with a big heart who, even in retirement, has always remained close to the school (recently, for example, he worked with the Alpini on the school garden project at the primary school of Castellamonte) and the territory. «I remember well our first meeting to plan the music courses in Castellamonte – writes Giacomo Spiller – as well as I remember well the many stories of my mother, the teacher Serafina, of the many projects carried out with Livio and Beppe Merlo. Her life was spent teaching ”.
