Therefore, those who want to make use of it, can obtain a 19% deduction from the tax, for the part exceeding the deductible of 129.11 euros. The object of the benefit is specialized healthcare costs, such as: analyzes, surgical services and the like.

Deductible expenses without the limit of the deductible

On the other hand, health costs are deductible without the limit of the deductible, always of the same type but incurred for:

1) transport of the disabled person by ambulance;

2) the transport of the disabled person carried out by the non-profit organization, with the issue of a regular invoice or by other subjects, such as the Municipality. The latter, in fact, also deals with assistance to the disabled;

3) purchase of armchairs for the disabled and non-ambulatory handicapped and of devices for the containment of fractures, hernias and for the correction of spinal defects;

4) prosthesis for walking;

5) construction of ramps for the elimination of architectural barriers both external and internal to the houses;

6) adaptation of the lift to make it suitable for containing the wheelchair and the installation and maintenance of the lifting platform installed in the home of the disabled person;

7) purchase of technical and IT aids aimed at facilitating the self-sufficiency of the integration of the handicapped, such as: fax, modem, computer, speakerphone, touch screen, expanded keyboard, mobile phones for the deaf and dumb and subscription costs to rapid telephone assistance service;

8) purchase of kitchens, equipped with mechanical, electronic or computer technologies, which facilitate their use and control by the disabled;

9) means necessary for the accompaniment, walking and lifting of the disabled;

10) interpreting for the deaf.

The indicated expenses are deductible to the extent of 19% on the entire amount and the deduction can also be used by the family member of the disabled person. This, however, on condition that the latter is fiscally dependent on him. Then, we have a third possibility of deducting expenses. In this regard, many do not know that medical expenses can be paid in installments, without losing the benefit of the tax deduction.

In fact, as specified by the Revenue Agency, the deduction can be divided into 4 constant annual installments of the same amount. This, in the case of healthcare expenses that exceed a total of 15,493.71 euros, gross of the deductible of 129.11 euros. However, it should be known that the choice of installments or deductions in a single solution, made in the tax return, is irrevocable.
