Israel intends to move 1.4 million Palestinians displaced from Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, in “humanitarian room” before the planned military attack on the city, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari said. The Rafah offensive is “something we have to do”, but the times of the assault they depend on “conditions that allow it”, the Israeli officer specified. More than half of Gaza’s population is refugee in Rafah, on the border with Egypt, after having fled the north and center of the Palestinian enclave. “What are the conditions? We need to make sure that 1.4 million people move to the humanitarian enclaves that we will create with the international community. They will provide them with temporary shelter, food, water and field hospitals,” Hagari said. Hagari refused to provide information on the timing of a possible IDF invasion of the city, where people live with severe shortages of food, water, medicines and shelter. “We are strengthening our preparation. I don’t want to mention the weather. It will be the best time for Israel,” the military spokesman said.
