Alfa Romeo: what the next Stelvio and Giulia will be like

Alfa Romeo has numerous new features and an ambitious product plan in store which starts with the launch, on 10 April, of the B-suv Milano, the brand’s first electric vehicle, based on the multi-energy CMP platform and produced in Tychy, Poland, together with Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger and arrives at the future heirs of Stelvio and Giulia and then moving, in perspective, towards the very top of the range, without forgetting the mid-range area. Second generation Stelvio and Giulia, also electric, will be built in Cassino on the new STLA Large platform for e-cars (but not only).

«Stelvio will be launched in 2025 and Giulia in 2026», explains the CEO of Alfa Romeo, Jean-Philippeprendito. Cassino will be the first European plant to use the new architecture that debuted on the Dodge Charger. However, explains the CEO, it is a “variant of STLA Large developed specifically for the needs of Alfa Romeo and Alfisti in terms of handling and driving pleasure”. For this reason the Italian company is working on suspension and steering, while the (secret) line has been defined and frozen. The new models will have generous dimensions: the platform allows the creation of cars between 4,764 and 5,126 millimeters long, between 1,897 and 2,030 millimeters wide with a wheelbase between 2,870 and 3,075 millimetres.

But not only that: Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia will have 800 Volt technology. And here the challenge opens up to Porsche, Audi and high-line BEVs such as the Lotus Eletre which, however, belongs to a much higher segment, on which, among other things, Alfa is thinking, as Learned himself admitted describing a product plan that could break into the E segment. It is not excluded “if the accounts are in order to also develop a super SUV and a roadster”, said the CEO.

The new new generation Alfa Romeos made in Cassino will have, in the electric versions, batteries up to 118 kWh with charging at 4.5 kWh per minute and acceleration from 0-100 km/h in around 3 seconds. The innovation is also digital: the new models will exploit, with Alfa Romeo customisation, two new software and silicon platforms from Stellantis: STLA Brain and STLA SmartCockpit, architectures that operate in synergy and govern the functions of the car and generate the user interface . Among the key points stand out over the air, OTA updates, such as those of smartphones (and Teslas) and the offer of online services.

Alfa Romeo, explains Learned, is betting on “digital subscription services as sources of revenue and profits”. The future of Alfa Romeo, with a history of excellence and passion for mechanics, is now also in software development. And here an interesting chapter opens because Jean-Philippeimpresa says «we develop everything in house, including the operating system».
