Nearly 250 specialists and residents from various hospitals in Spain gathered to review the latest diagnostic and therapeutic developments in hematological diseases at the ninth edition of the conference “Updating: Hematology in 48 hours” organized by the Hematology Service at the University of Navarra Clinic.

The conference, led by over 30 experts, delved into the current state of hematology and discussed new treatment approaches for chronic and acute leukemias, myelodysplastic and lymphoproliferative syndromes, hemophilia, monoclonal gammopathies, multiple myeloma, thrombopathies, and anemia.

Dr. Jose Antonio Paramo, coordinator of the conference, highlighted the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence in the diagnosis and prognosis of hematological diseases, paving the way for personalized medicine. Gene therapy, particularly in hemophilia, was emphasized by Maria Teresa Álvarez Román from La Paz University Hospital, while Dr. Adolfo de la Fuente highlighted the evolving therapeutic approaches to acute myeloblastic leukemia, moving beyond conventional treatments.

CAR-T cell therapy, a form of precision medicine, was a focal point of discussion, with Dr. Jordi Sierra underscoring its significant benefits in patients with relapsed or resistant hematological malignancies. Dr. José Mateo Arranz highlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence in identifying patients at risk of thrombosis and early disease detection.

The conference showcased the innovative advancements in hematology and reiterated the importance of staying abreast of cutting-edge research and treatments in the field.
