Advancing Precision Medical Neurology: The Andalusia-Roche Alliance and Research Projects

The Andalusia-Roche Alliance for Precision Medical Neurology recently held a conference on Personalized Precision Medicine in Neurology at the Ibima-BIONAND research center in Malaga. This conference, accredited by the Andalusian Health Quality Agency, brought together around thirty researchers from different Andalusian health centers to discuss relevant developments in the field of Precision Medical Neurology.

The conference covered various topics, including the basics of precision and personalized medicine, its application in neurodegenerative diseases, applied pharmacogenetics, artificial intelligence linked to health outcomes, updating molecular biology concepts and biomarker development, clinical and molecular genetics in neurological diseases, and genetically based epilepsies.

The event also provided an opportunity for researchers to share strategies and results and learn about the facilities and infrastructure of the Malaga center. The visit to SIMOA, a state-of-the-art technological infrastructure acquired within the Alliance, was highlighted. This ultrasensitive analyzer will allow for the detection of biomarkers in a more precise way, representing an important advance in the early detection of neurological diseases and their understanding. This scientific-technical service is available to any member of the scientific community.

The Andalusia-Roche Alliance for Precision Medical Neurology, established in 2022, aims to implement personalized medicine in the field of neurology. The Alliance has mobilized investments of around one million euros and is committed to developing a scientific program in Precision Medical Neurology to deepen the understanding of neurological diseases. The scientific activity of the Alliance will be led by the coordinator of NeuroReca, Pedro Serrano, head of the Neurology Unit of the Regional Hospital of Málaga.

The Alliance currently involves about twenty neuroscience professionals from different provinces of Andalusia, both in the field of research and care. Projects and initiatives developed within the framework of this alliance will be structured through NeuroReca, the Andalusian Network for Clinical and Translational Research in Neurology, optimizing the synergies within the Andalusian Public Health System.
