AIL returns to the square with Easter Eggs for research

At Easter, chocolate eggs cannot be missing. And why not combine gluttony with solidarity? From 1 to 3 April the volunteers of AIL – Italian Association against leukemia, lymphomas and myeloma will be in 4,300 Italian squares with AIL Easter Eggs: 12 euros to support research on blood cancer.

Advances in therapies

There are 33,000 diagnoses of blood cancer every year in Italy. In addition to the impact on survival and quality of life, these neoplasms make patients particularly fragile because they compromise the immune system, also exposing them to greater risks of infection. In recent years, diagnosis and treatments have made important strides for both adult and pediatric patients, thanks to the development of innovative, more effective and targeted therapies, such as targeted therapies, immunotherapy and Car-T cells. But the work is certainly not finished: much effort is still needed to make these diseases more and more curable.

AIL’s commitment

AIL supports patients and, thanks also to the Easter Eggs initiative, has been able to field research and assistance projects, contributing – even in times of pandemics – to guaranteeing continuity of care and treatment and to raise awareness of medical advances. There are many different projects: from apeer funding for clinical studies to the organization of home care services that avoid hospitalization when not necessary; from lodging houses close to hematology centers (to accommodate non-resident patients and their family members free of charge during periods of treatment) to the contribution to the costs for the operation of the centers, clinics, wards, for the purchase of devices, or intended the insertion of health personnel. Up to support for schools and playrooms in hospitals dedicated to children and teenagers.
