Aiop, impoverishment for the less well-off forced into private healthcare – Healthcare

“Even the most economically fragile groups of citizens today are forced to turn to paid healthcare because they have no other option, and the result is that precisely these groups become even more impoverished”. This was noted by the national president of Aiop (Italian Private Hospital Association), Barbara Cittadini, at the presentation of the 21st Aiop-Censis Report ‘Hospitals and health. Let’s reinvent the health service’ presented today.

From the Report, explained Cittadini, “it emerges that when citizens are able to benefit from the services of the National Health Service, they say they are satisfied whether it is the public service or the accredited private one. The critical issue that emerges, however, is that there are enormous difficulty in accessing the National Health Service, especially in the South and in the regions with a recovery plan”. The consequence of this, he stated, “is healthcare mobility from one Region to another, the renunciation of treatment or the use of paid healthcare”. However, with the 2024-26 budget law, he concluded, “there are some positive signs thanks to the additional resources provided for the waiting lists and also to the possibility of purchasing services from the private sector to reduce them”.
