Pharmacies to Become Small Clinics Thanks to New Simplifications Bill
A significant shift is on the horizon for pharmacies as they are set to transform into small local clinics, offering a wide range of healthcare services. This change is coming thanks to the Simplifications bill, which is expected to be approved by the Council of Ministers soon.
Under the new rules, pharmacies will not only serve as places to pick up prescriptions but also offer services such as pediatric tests, home care, and telemedicine. These services will be reimbursed by the national health service, making pharmacies healthcare providers on par with small clinics.
The new concept of the “Service Pharmacy” will be prominently displayed alongside the traditional green cross sign. Pharmacies will have to create special rooms for these new functions, prohibiting the sale of medicines or other products in these spaces. Additionally, pharmacies will have to maintain a distance of 200 meters between each other.
Among the new services pharmacies will offer are diagnostic tests to combat antibiotic resistance, various vaccinations, diagnostic swabs, telemedicine services, and more. Pharmacists will also have the authority to dispense medical devices for patients in home care facilities.
Operators will be required to undergo training and certification to provide these new services, including passing a qualifying course at the Higher Institute of Health.
This shift marks a significant evolution in the role of pharmacies in the healthcare system, offering more comprehensive and convenient services to the public.
