Twitter was born in 2006 as a service for sharing short messages of 140 characters. Over time, the number of characters has doubled and all the expressive modes present on other social networks have been added, from videos to stories. The social network today has 199 million daily users worldwide, while in Italy it has an average monthly audience of about 11 million people. The company recently revealed its desire to offer influencers opportunities for monetizing their content and is preparing to introduce paid functions for users. Twitter has always been the territory of journalists and politicians, but according to Buzzoole the ranking of the 10 most followed profiles, living in Italy, is almost monopolized by sportsmen, as is the case on Facebook.

10. Aaron Ramsey. With 3.2 million followers, the current Juventus midfielder opens this ranking. He shares the most important moments of his games on Twitter, albeit less frequently than he does on Instagram.

9. Matteo Renzi. In ninth position, with 3.3 million followers, we find a politician who has been using Twitter since 2009 and has made it his main means of communication. Here he shares his views and the proposals of his party.

8. Laura Pausini. In eighth position, with 3.4 million followers, we find the famous singer who, as happens on Facebook, shares the special moments that characterize her life with her fans.

7. Gianluigi Buffon. The Juventus goalkeeper occupies the seventh position with 3.52 million followers. As on other channels, here you will find photos and reflections related to the games played.

6. Mario Balotelli. In sixth position, with 3.56 million followers, we find the Monza player, who however on Twitter still defines himself as the “Brescia forward”. Judging by the frequency of tweets, it cannot be said that it is a social network that updates frequently.

5. Lorenzo Jovanotti. With 3.75 million followers Lorenzo ranks fifth in this ranking. With his tweets he shares some of his best songs and is used to retweet content made by other singers or artists from the entertainment world.

4. Juan Cuadrado. In fourth position, with 3.9 million followers, we find another Juventus player. Cuadrado uses this social network to share his thoughts on the games just played.

3. Pedro Rodriguez. The current Roma player occupies the third position with 4.8 million followers. Like other players, he publishes content related to matches, training and his career.

2. Valentino Rossi. In second place, with 5.53 million followers, we find the most loved motorcycle rider in Italy. Valentino shares on Twitter, as well as on Instagram, the images of the races, the pits and behind the scenes.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo. In first position, also on this occasion, with 92.2 million followers, we find his majesty Cristiano Ronaldo. His global fame is unattainable and, barring transfers by Juventus, he will remain the leader in this ranking for a long time, considering those who live in Italy.
