Yesterday, in the presence of the mayor Luca Prandini and the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini, the inauguration ceremony of the new municipal gymnasium and the thanksgiving of those who in these 10 years have supported the rebirth of Concordia. The new gymnasium is located in the place where the Zanoni secondary school and its school gymnasium were located until 29 May 2012, irreparably damaged by the earthquake, and in the place where the reception camp managed by the Italian Red Cross was located.

Many guests who returned to Concordia, including Gennaro Senator of the Prato Fire Brigade who was among the first to arrive in Concordia after the earthquakes of 20 May, and Ignazio Schintu, Director of Emergency Operations and Rescue of the Italian Red Cross who managed the reception camp that was set up at the sports center. The mayor of Concordia Luca Prandini declared: “The earthquake deprived Concordia of its historic secondary school and the adjoining gymnasium, and today we are returning to the Concordia a new gym in a redeveloped sports center in the place that 10 years ago housed the reception camp managed by the Italian Red Cross. What was the symbol of the earthquake in Concordia today is a lively and welcoming place. For this important occasion, Saturday 28 May we invited volunteers, associations and institutions who in various ways helped Concordia in the emergency and accompanied it in its rebirth. Together with the President of the Region Stefano Bonaccini, we inaugurated this new structure and thanked those who helped us in the emergency and supported us in the path of reconstruction.

Structure

The new Concordia municipal gymnasium was built by the regional commissioner and is part of the works planned for the Concordia school network, of which the new Zanoni secondary school and the remodeling and redevelopment of the Gasparini primary school have already been built. The new school gymnasium therefore represents the completion of the new Concordia school complex for an expense of € 1,100,000 plus VAT to which € 925,000 must be added for the primary school intervention already carried out in 2019.

The new gymnasium is located in the place where the Zanoni secondary school and its school gymnasium were located until 29 May 2012, irreparably damaged by the earthquake, and in the place where the reception camp managed by the Italian Red Cross was located.

While the Zanoni secondary school has already been rebuilt in the new area that houses the school buildings, the town hall and the church, the gymnasium has been rebuilt in the original area in continuity with the sports center and within a larger redevelopment project. of the plant in via Togliatti wanted by the municipal administration and which today also has a remodeled and usable green area.

The gym has a gross surface area of ​​approximately 1000 m2, net of the changing rooms, a height under the beam equal to 7.50 m, in compliance with the CONI Standards for sports facilities, and is equipped with the gymnastic equipment of a school gym. In addition to CONI approval, the project was drawn up with reference to the guidelines for the design of sports spaces for people with disabilities indicated by the Italian Paralympic Committee. The flooring is in solid wood parquet approved for competitive activities at national and international level for both volleyball and basketball and five-a-side football, but it is suitable for all types of sports such as skating, roller hockey, dance sports and other disciplines. such as wheelchair basketball.

The result of the intervention is a real multisport platform that allows the simultaneous use of the spaces, both internal and external, by several sports subjects and groups, as well as by students. Adjacent to the gym there is in fact a new soccer field in synthetic turf created as part of the intervention of the Commissioner Structure and a new multipurpose track obtained thanks to an investment of € 100,000 from the municipal administration.

We also intervened in the external area, eliminating any architectural barrier and creating paths for the visually impaired / blind in order to guarantee maximum accessibility to the structure.

The titles

The inaugural ceremony of the new gym at the sports center was also an opportunity to name buildings and sports spaces.

Francesco Canova Sports Center – “The Boccio”
At the “Francesco Canova” sports center, former president of the Coop. Sport and Leisure, the sub-title “Il boccio” has been attributed, in memory of the time when it housed the bowling green, demolished due to the damage of the 2012 earthquake. The logo was developed thanks to an educational project of the Zanoni secondary school , and represents the outline of a tree that has eight symbols at the ends of the branches identifying the sports and recreational activities that can be carried out at the sports center.

Multipurpose room Alfredo Ganzerla
The multipurpose room is dedicated to the memory of Alfredo Ganzerla (1920-1978) primary school teacher and one of the founders of the Concordia sports center which gave life to the municipal sports center.

Municipal gym Andrea Sgarbi
The new municipal gymnasium is dedicated to the memory of Andrea Sgarbi (1966-2010), a concordian who was involved in volunteering and sports.

Five-a-side football pitch Alan Fava
The new five-a-side football field is dedicated to the memory of Alan Fava (1981-2021), who was also involved in volunteering and sports.

In this way, the municipal administration wanted to pay homage to concordians who spent their lives for the sports center, for volunteering and for spreading the culture of sport.
