At app school, the digital youth academy

by admin

There is a new generation of very young girls and boys at the same time already veterans of technology that are making their way around the world, in a completely flat, barrier-free market.

They can work anywhere, because they know the two lingua franca of digital globalization: English and the code. And if the former is a frozen language from the time of Shakespeare and the King James Bible, coding never stands still: “In the IT sector – Antonio Chiappetta told us – it is always necessary to keep up to date, because everything changes from one day to the other. Stopping does not lead to anything good or at least it takes away your chances ”.

Chiappetta, who is 25, was part of the first group of members in 2016 Apple Developer Academy Italian in Naples and today is what we could define as a “veteran” of technology. Eight years ago in Brazil the first Apple Developer Academy opened: it was 2013 and the Brazilian Academy was the first of a series of centers of excellence for the training of aspiring developers, designers and entrepreneurs focused on the Apple platform. Cupertino company. In Europe the first Apple Academy to open was precisely that of Naples: since then the offices have multiplied, today there are more than 12 all over the world, with those in Detroit, Michigan and South Korea that are opening in recent weeks.

Diplomarsi alla Apple Academy
Who comes out of those courses? Digital youth, a new generation of developers with hybrid skills e ready to change and renew every few months. We met one, to understand what happens next.

Chiappetta also added to his training a degree in computer engineering and work in different companies, moving often: from Naples to Milan and then to Helsinki, San Francisco and now Paris, where works as a developer for Elevate Labs and takes care of Elevate, an app to keep the mind trained through “brain training”. Above all, he told us that since the time of the Apple Academy he has learned how important it is to be prepared for the digital world from a theoretical and practical point of view, as well as never stop learning.

“The most intense memory I have – he said Chiappetta a Italian Tech – was at the San Francisco Developer Conference, WWDC, where we were invited. Unexpectedly, Apple’s number one, Tim Cook, asked us and the Brazilian guys, the two largest groups that year, to take a picture together ”. The strongest emotion? “I was struck by his passion, the desire to spend time with us despite juggling dozens of appointments every day. He encouraged us to talk about our apps with the other engineers present in San Francisco. It was a very special moment ”.

Breadcrumbs, artificial intelligence to accelerate companies’ revenues

by Silvio Gulizia

An international school
Chiappetta attended the Academy on her Italian debut. The courses, which today see a mix of girls and boys from all over Europe, at that time they were mainly frequented by Italian and especially Campania boys. Even today, the Apple Developer Academies offer two programs:

  • a 30 day introductory course on specific topics, especially dedicated to those who are considering working in the app economy;
  • a intensive course of 12 months to acquire more professional and programming skills.

To date they are more than 1500 apps on the Apple Store created by Academy graduates, more than 160 companies were created and in all people from 51 different countries participated.

Chiappetta, like many digital young people of his generation, is not satisfied with just one job and one project, but has others in the drawer and a “lateral” one: “It’s an app based on artificial intelligence that I developed the year last to keep me trained and learn new things, between jobs. It is called Waste Classifier and use the iPhone camera and AI to recognize and classify objects (top image). The goal is to help people recycle their trash properly. It’s a nice project, which I really like, but I never have time to carry it out ”. For others, it would have been a point of arrival and not a simple training.
