Atari acquires video game database Mobygames – – Gamereactor

If you like video games, chances are you’ve used Moby Games. This site started in 1999 and is basically a very comprehensive database of video games that can be compared to IMDB in that it can easily tell you who is involved in making a game, show screenshots of older games, provide information about various games (retro , Indie and AAA) trivia and facts, and more.

Now, GamesIndustry.biz reports that Atari has acquired Moby Games. As worrying as this may be, Atari seems to plan to continue running the site as it does today and keep it intact. Atari CEO Wade Rosen put it this way:

“The Moby Games community has always played an important role in documenting, celebrating and preserving video games, and supporting Moby Games allows us to give back to the community and contribute to its development and success.

It is important to Atari that Moby Games maintains its integrity, and we are committed to supporting the site in ways that improve the contributor and user experience. “

Jeremiah Freyholtz has been the general manager of Moby Games since 2013 and will continue in that role, saying:

“I believe this transition will allow Moby Games to continue to be an important community-driven project, and Atari’s participation will best help us achieve long-term stability and success.”

Have you been using Moby Games? What are your thoughts on the site and this deal?
