Three years ago, the famous old man of 68 was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer. How is Rainer Langhans doing today? “Great,” says the 83-year-old in an interview with the health magazine “Apotheken Umschau”. “The cancer has made me even healthier. And that’s not just my imagination. The doctors also say: You are biologically younger.”

He gets “nasty letters” because he says it so openly. But he attributes his attitude to his spirituality: “Fortunately, it allowed me to look beyond the body a little – to practice dying a little. For me, cancer was an incredible offer: let go of the body again and again and live properly! “

Langhans was one of the most famous members of Commune I in Berlin. Today he says: It wasn’t about sex, drugs & rock ‘n’ roll – it was actually about the opposite. “The Commune was an invention to overcome the West with its end product, capitalism and fascism. We saw: We cannot change the world outside. It is we who have to change. We then went inside “To seek out this fascist core within us, to reflect to each other what we see – and to go beyond it.”

Today, says Rainer Langhans, he has arrived where he was in 1968 and has been living in a commune with three women for more than 40 years. According to Langhans, the cancer was an indication: “You have to practice dying even more because you’ll soon be ready.”
