Cartoons to deal with hospital visits – Children news

Cartoons to deal with hospital visits more lightly. It is the initiative for young patients launched in the Community House of Forlimpopoli (Forlì-Cesena), a healthcare facility built in the town’s former hospital which houses some inpatient departments and various outpatient clinics, including pediatric ones. On the occasion of World Rare Diseases Day (Thursday 29 February), the project of two associations comes to fruition: Aibws (Italian Association of Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome) and Aimp (Italian Association of Macrodactylia and Pros).

There are two cartoons on offer: “Taking with a smile”, which talks about blood tests, and “Biwy and the doctors”, about the relationship with doctors that children should not fear, but rather see as friends. Biwy, protagonist of both videos, is a butterfly who, in the cartoon, interacts with the little patients Eric and Sara. In Forlimpopoli they are screened in the waiting room.

“The experience alongside families has made us understand that many children are scared of doctors and that over time this fear can also influence their relationships with other strangers.

For this reason, with Biwy, we wanted to provide them with simple but effective help”, explains Federica Borgini, head of international relations at Aimp. “The doctor must not be perceived, banally, as the one who gives the injection, but rather as a person with a positive role”, adds Monica Bertoletti, administrator of Aibws. The cartoons are designed for all children, there are no references to specific diseases. Both are created by Racoon Studio, a Milanese company that deals with animation. “I take with a smile “, in particular, was awarded at the European Independent Film Awards in 2019.
