Casale Angelini, the Italian Care House for cancer patients

by admin

The first Italian Care House is born in ANCONA. This is “Casale Angelini”, a project born from the collaboration between the Angelini Foundation and the Ospedali Riuniti of Ancona, to offer cancer patients, and their caregivers, the opportunity to stay for free in a structure conceived as a home, in the periods where it is necessary to attend the hospital to undergo visits, treatments and other medical procedures.

The Care House model is designed to ensure that continuity of care is not interrupted and represents an innovative model in the panorama of our country, following the example of the Hotel Hospitals present in the countries of Northern Europe. Casale Angelini will provide a free reception service able to accommodate patients who, due to the need to perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, need to stay for days or weeks near the hospital.

The farmhouse, originally a farmhouse, has been completely renovated by the Angelini Foundation according to sustainability and energy saving criteria. The structure has a size of about 800 square meters (with another 500 of garden), and has been designed to have all the characteristics of a home, such as living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, TV room and garden. It is intended to accommodate discharged patients accompanied by a family member, up to a total of 18 people, and it is estimated that in a year it can accommodate over 200 people, helping to lighten the public and voluntary structures that today take on the responsibility of guaranteeing continuity. welfare.

The project is regulated by a memorandum of understanding signed by the Angelini Foundation, the AOU Ospedali Riuniti di Ancona, the Marche Region, the Municipality of Ancona and the Marche Polytechnic University, which defines the criteria by which the oncology clinic will identify the people to be hosted and the permanence, and also provides for the creation of a committee for monitoring and evaluating progress. Finally, the volunteers of Artis, an association for research on nursing and support therapy, will manage the farmhouse.

“The active and global care of the patient, from the beginning to the end of his therapeutic path understood in the broadest sense, must embrace all care paths”, explains Rossana Berardi, Professor of Oncology at the Polytechnic University of Marche and Director of the Oncology Clinic of the United Hospitals of Ancona. “Casale Angelini fits into this context, allowing the patients of our Oncology Clinic and CORM, the Oncology and Research Center of the Marche, in particular those residing far away, effective access to the health facility by staying in a nearby ‘Care room’ and welcoming, free for patients and a source of efficiency and savings for the Health System “.
