There is a slight increase in infections from coronavirus in Italia, albeit to a much lesser extent than in other European countries. He intervened on the question Gianni Rezza, Director of Prevention of the Ministry of Health, during a conference in Venice, who spoke about the challenges that await us in the near future and also in the event of an upcoming “disease x”.
With the Higher Institute of Health that has launched a first alert on the increase in cases among health professionals and the general incidence, the situation in our country seems uncertain on certain points of view and adherence to the vaccination campaign is weighing. Rezza talked about these and other issues in his speech.
Covid, Rezza reveals what awaits us for the future
Gianni Rezza has decided to clarify once and for all what awaits us: “What will happen this winter with Covid depends on several factors but in particular on vaccination coverage”. In particular, “to keep the virus under control, with an R0 that settles between 5-6, we must probably reach the 90% threshold“.
According to Rezza in Italy the situation is very good “but not optimal because we still have some cases and between 30-40 deaths a day. We are among the countries with the lowest incidence in Europe and in the world, thanks to the vaccination campaign and the use of the mask indoors ”.
Possible “disease x” epidemic: Rezza’s announcement
The Director of Prevention of the Ministry of Health then made an announcement: “We must be ready for a new ‘disease x’ epidemic, in ten or fifty years. The Coronavirus – he added – taught us that we expected a flu and a pandemic has arrived. We have other viruses, for example those transmitted by mosquitoes, which due to climate change could take on an international dimension. The ones that worry us most, however, are the respiratory ones ”.
Rezza’s conclusion is that the need remains “to always have personal protective equipment, and to activate all that is possible in terms of medical countermeasures. We have to plan right now, to avoid being faced with a new pandemic emergency “.
