Voices are growing in Germany that signal the resurgence of Covid and the worsening of the stress that the increase in cases entails for the health system. An important association of doctors, the Marburger Bund, has warned that the effects of the high numbers of infections are already being felt. “We see bottlenecks in hospitals, especially in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, with its particularly high contagion data,” Marburger Bund president Susanne Johna told the Handelsblatt newspaper.
“But some services in other Länder, medical guards and first aid, are also working only in part due to the shortage of staff. We also have to assume that more and more workers will be missing in the coming weeks,” Johna said. Overall, the situation can be managed, but the health system “is reaching its limit in some parts of the country”, concluded the president of Marburger Burg.
