by admin

Rome, 16 July 2021 – They are still growing the national Rt contagion index (today at 0.91) e the incidence of Covid cases (19 out of 100 thousand inhabitants), while waiting for the new one bulletin of the Ministry of Health on the progress of Coronavirus in Italia. The numbers of infections could still mark a rise, even if in these days the increase in the new positives detected has not been accompanied, fortunately, by an equal one as regards hospitalizations and intensive care (here the complete bulletin of July 15th). However, the growing data could also lead to a return to the yellow zone for some regions.

Summary

According to the forecasts of the European Agency for Disease Control and Prevention (Ecdc) there will be a strong rebound in the number of infections in the coming weeks, with almost five times more cases per day by 1 August because of Delta variant and easing of restrictions. In the region that includes the EU, Norway and Iceland, the ECDC expects an incidence of over 420 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the week ending 1 August compared to less than 90 last week. The number of hospitalizations and deaths, on the other hand, should increase less rapidly, according to the ECDC, thanks in particular to the vaccination campaign.
Meanwhile, Malta is organizing flights to repatriate Italian, German, French and Spanish students who were stranded on the island after the government closed English summer schools due to Covid-19 infections, according to local press reports.
