Flu Epidemic in Foggia: Healthcare System Put to the Test
The seasonal flu has taken a toll on the healthcare system in the province of Foggia, with thousands of cases putting a strain on local health facilities. According to Doctor Giuseppina Moffa, director of the Sisp of the ASL Foggia, there have been twenty-one people hospitalized in the health facilities of the Apulian local health authorities due to the flu.
However, there is some good news on the horizon as the epidemic curve is on the decline. The worst of the outbreak seems to have occurred during the Christmas holidays and the beginning of the new year in 2023.
Dr. Moffa attributes the increase in flu cases to “vaccine disaffection,” stating that there has been a notable increase in cases compared to previous years. Despite the vaccine not completely averting the risk of falling ill, it has certainly helped to mitigate the severity of the illness, especially in the elderly and more fragile population.
In light of this, Dr. Moffa is appealing to the population to get vaccinated in order to help prevent the spread of the flu. The lack of perception of danger, she claims, has contributed to the increase in cases.
As the healthcare system continues to navigate through this flu season, it is crucial for the public to heed Dr. Moffa’s advice and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and others from the flu.
