Seldom for a pair of earphones is a media campaign like that of Nothing for the ear (1) remembered. After much anticipation, today they have finally been officially presented: “Nothing ear (1) is a breath of fresh air in a messy and indifferent market, setting the tone for our connected digital world to come,” said Carl Pei, Nothing’s CEO and co-founder. “It combines advanced technology, precise engineering and innovative design at an incredible price.” Nothing, remember, is the company founded by Pei after the adventure in OnePlus.
Design
Unlike all the competitors, the Ear (1) are transparent, an aesthetic trait that allows their structure to be revealed, and in fact microphones, magnets and circuit are perfectly visible. Other design elements are actually functional, like the red dot for the right earbud or the curious notch in the case that helps separate the earbuds when they’re in place. Ear (1) offers advanced comfort, since each earbud weighs only 4.7 grams and has an ergonomic fit. There are air vents to reduce pressure and three customizable liquid silicone caps.
Pure sound
For the sound there is only one driver, but of considerable size, 11.6 mm. The acoustic calibration is the work of Teenage Engineering, a company famous for innovative and well-sounding audio solutions. Here he carefully tuned the software and hardware to achieve balanced bass, mid and high performance. As befits a latest generation product, then the Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity guarantees stability and good data transfer speed.
The conquest of silence
Active Noise Cancellation on the Ear (1) uses three high-definition microphones to focus on music, movies and podcasts. Two modes are available: Light for moderate noise cancellation, and Maximum for noisier environments such as the plane or the office. There is also the Transparency mode to listen to what happens around. Nothing is very proud of its Clear Voice technology, specially developed to reduce constant background noise, such as wind.
The rest
Ear (1) offers over 5.5 hours of listening on a single charge and up to 34 hours with the case. It takes 10 minutes of charging the case (square and partly transparent) to have up to 8 hours for a day of power. Any Qi charger can be used.
Through the app for iPhone and Android, it is possible to activate Find My Earbud, which allows you to play the earphones from the app to find them if they are lost, but also to set the equalizer and configure Active Noise Cancellation and Gesture Control, as well as In-Ear Detection and Fast Pairing. The Ear headphones (1) are also resistant to sweat and splashing water.
