There are many herbs that grow spontaneously and that we only look at with annoyed eyes. Maybe, they invade the driveways or infest our gardens and we can’t wait to remove them. We are talking about the much-hated weeds, which grow in quantity at this time of year. Yet, among them there are many that can have different uses and health benefits.
Among all the wild herbs, one of the most annoying is certainly nettle, since touching it also causes ugly rashes on the skin. Despite this, it can be used safely and we too can appreciate it for several reasons.
Everyone considers it a weed but it would seem to be worth gold for health and shape and it is also at no cost
Nettle is a spontaneous and perennial herb, which we find very easily wherever there is a little green. If, however, we find it in very polluted places, such as on the roadsides, it is better to avoid collecting it.
According to experts, nettle has both anti-inflammatory and diuretic action. That’s why many have used it as a laxative and diuretic. At the same time, the nettle would promote the metabolism and the proper functioning of the nervous system. For this reason, it can be a valid ally of our weight loss diet. Not only that, but it would also provide minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, iron and magnesium.
Conversely, nettle may interfere with medications for diabetes, high blood pressure, and lithium, sedatives, and wafarin. In these cases it is always better to ask our doctor for advice.
How to use nettle
Generally, the best nettle is harvested during this period. So, we still have time to enjoy some delicious bouquets of this mistreated herb.
We can use the leaves and roots to prepare infusions, decoctions and fresh juices to drink. If the doctor agrees, we can also consume 3 cups a day. For the decoction we will need 4 grams of roots to boil in a cup of water for 10 minutes.
Alternatively, it can be boiled and sautéed in a pan with a drizzle of oil as a side dish or to season omelettes, pasta and risotto. Nettle can be reduced to powder and diluted in a glass of water. In short, it takes very little to integrate nettle into our diet and the benefits can be many.
In conclusion, it is true that everyone considers it a weed, but now we will not make that mistake again.
