Former Universitario de Deportes and Peruvian soccer team idol, Roberto Chale, is currently battling a degenerative disease, diabetes, which has taken a toll on his health since 2016. His wife, Lucía Simic, revealed that despite a recent slight improvement, he suffered a significant relapse in 2024. This has led to his financial resources for treatment running out.
Simic described her husband as “very delicate” and in need of constant care to keep him stable. She mentioned that they have been using their family savings to cover his medical expenses, as Chale does not receive any financial assistance or pension.
Despite the challenging situation, Simic expressed her determination to continue providing the necessary support for her husband, stating that they have never considered placing him in a care facility. She emphasized the importance of family unity and love in helping him through this difficult time.
Chale’s daughter, Daniela, also spoke about the family’s financial struggles, revealing that they even considered selling their home to fund his care. However, they ultimately decided against it due to the sentimental value the house holds for Chale.
In a recent interview, Daniela described her father as an “example of strength” and expressed astonishment at his continued resilience in the face of his deteriorating health. Despite the challenges they face, the family remains determined to provide the best possible care for Chale and are exploring alternative ways to secure the necessary funds for his treatment.
