Italy decides not to join WHO’s global green pass project

The Italian government has clarified that it has no intention of joining the World Health Organization’s global green pass project, despite previous confusion caused by a recent decree. The project, aimed at sharing data on vaccination certification at an international level, was initially mentioned in the decree Pnrr approved last week.

Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, emphasized in a statement that Italy will not be participating in the global green pass initiative. The decision comes after concerns and speculations were raised about the implications of joining the WHO project.

The global green pass, a collaboration between the WHO and the European Union, was designed to create a system for digital health certifications that could be used internationally, particularly in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Italy’s refusal to join means that participation in the global digital health certification network is voluntary for EU member states.

The government’s decision not to align with the WHO’s project underscores Italy’s commitment to maintaining its autonomy and sovereignty in health matters. The move also reflects the government’s focus on fulfilling its promises to the Italian people.

Overall, Italy’s stance on the global green pass project signifies a clear break from previous administrations and a renewed emphasis on upholding the country’s interests and priorities.
