Rescue mission saves freeclimber in Teolo
Moments of fear struck the municipality of Teolo on the evening of 6 April as a freeclimber found himself in a precarious situation at Rocca Pendice in the Euganean Hills. The Padua mountain rescue team was called into action at 7:30 pm when a 48-year-old from Padua fell about ten meters to the ground while descending the east face of the Attacks sector.
Fortunately, the man had his companions and a doctor on site who immediately provided assistance. Nine rescuers made their way to the site of the accident on foot, accompanied by the ambulance medical team. The injured man was given first aid for suspected trauma to the pelvis, femur, and ankle before being placed on a stretcher and lowered about sixty meters onto the path below.
The rescue team then transported the man for approximately 800 meters of ups and downs before transferring him to the ambulance and taking him to Padua hospital. Thankfully, after undergoing clinical investigations, the man was deemed to be out of danger.
This harrowing incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures in activities such as freeclimbing. The quick response of the rescue team and the presence of medical professionals on site undoubtedly played a crucial role in preventing a tragedy.
