German Bundestag – More powers planned for nursing staff

Berlin: (hib/PK) According to the federal government, laws are currently being prepared to strengthen nursing training and the expanded powers of nursing staff. With the creation of nationwide nursing assistant training, the personnel base for nursing should also be strengthened below the specialist level, according to the federal government’s answer (20/11158) to a small question (20/10940) from the Union parliamentary group.

According to the information, a nursing competence law is also planned to expand the powers of nursing staff in accordance with their competencies. The specialists could often carry out more tasks than they are legally allowed to do independently.

The diverse skills of nursing specialists are not yet sufficiently used in care. This means that potential for improving care remains unused. The nursing profession is a medical profession with its own professional skills, which can be very attractive for people with different school qualifications and professional backgrounds. The aim is to use structural improvements to inspire young people in particular to take up the nursing profession.
