Earlier rumors alleged that Apple is expected to add LiDAR scanner (LiDAR) function to all iPhone 13 series phones that will be launched this year; however, according to the latest post of the well-known breaking news account @dylandkt on Twitter, LiDAR will still be available this year. It will only appear on the Pro version of the iPhone. Apple originally intended to carry LiDAR in a full range of new phones, but for various reasons, this year LiDAR will still not appear in the cheap iPhone.
In fact, according to a previous TrendForce report, LiDAR will not appear on this year’s cheap iPhone models, and now @dylandkt has also issued a post to confirm this statement. @dylandkt directly stated on his Twitter that LiDAR will only appear on the iPhone 13 Pro model this year. However, @dylandkt also confirmed that Apple did hope to put LiDAR in all models, but for various reasons, it will not happen this year.
LiDAR will only be coming to the pro iPhone models. Earlier this year it seemed Apple wanted to release all iPhone 13/12S models with LiDAR but due to one reason or another, it won’t be happening this year.

It is worth noting that @dylandkt has accurately predicted unpublished Apple product information in the past, so the credibility of this rumor will be very high.
As for what is LiDAR? Apple’s LiDAR first appeared in the iPad Pro models in 2020, and then the LiDAR was used in the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max models launched in the same year; the operating principle of LiDAR is measured by the time-of-flight technology The distance between the sensor and the object so that the camera can capture the distance through accurate measurement. Apple devices equipped with LiDAR mainly want to achieve a better AR experience, but thanks to the LiDAR sensor, the device camera can also achieve better night portrait shooting.
