Health but not only: the new generation of wearables in the shadow of the metaverse

by admin

There are those who assure that 2022 in the smartwatch field, the most popular product in the wearable universe, will be more eventful than the one just ended, chip crisis permitting. And the reason (not the only one) is quickly explained: Google’s entry into the field with its Pixel Watch, a project that has been talked about for years and probably came to the point of blossoming.

Taking into account the rumors that see it on the launch pad in the next few months, on the wearables scene it would present a perfect device to be used in combination with any Android smartphone and with the added value of exclusive (yet unidentified) features of the WearOS operating system. , exhibiting a very different interface from the highly customized one that Samsung has developed for its Galaxy Watches.

To summarize, we are talking about a sort of Google Pixel to put on the wrist, which could break the balance of a sector increasingly related to people’s health. Already today, the sensors of smart watches go beyond the detection of the heartbeat and the monitoring of physical activity, detecting saturation and temperature (two sensitive indicators to detect the presence of Covid-19).

In the future it could cover a broader spectrum of clinical situations (such as diabetes, heart disease or even some degenerative diseases) and open up new application fronts for smartwatches, see home care.

In 2022, returning to the expected announcements, we should see three new Apple-branded items, the Watch Series 8, a new Watch SE and a “rugged” device, designed for athletes and sportsmen looking for adrenaline. The most awaited bang by the tech community and by fans of the genre, however, is the other new entry of the Apple company: the Apple Glass. Will they see the light this year or (as it seems more likely today) will they be postponed to 2023? And will they be as someone claims the milestone of the post-smartphone era, at least for some features?
