Four-semester postgraduate studies prepare specialists and managers for future challenges in health and social services

With the master’s degree in Health Care Management (CE), the Tyrolean private university UMIT TIROL will be offering a new, innovative postgraduate degree from autumn 2024. In four semesters, specialists and managers are prepared for the current and future challenges in the health and social services.

The course requires students to think and design health and social systems holistically. To this end, the new course pioneeringly integrates the necessary skills from the content areas of systemic and complexity understanding, innovation and change management, people orientation as well as sustainability and resilience. Through this unique combination, students acquire the ability to comprehensively understand and critically analyze individual and overall health and social systems and their sustainable controllability and to implement their own leadership role in them effectively and ethically. Building on the necessary knowledge from management, law, economics and health sciences, various focus options (e.g. innovation management, green skills, sustainability) allow for scientifically sound and application-oriented in-depth study.

The course is rounded off with extensive practical examples. Regular exchanges with high-ranking representatives from the health and social landscape enable students to change perspectives, discuss current and future challenges and critically question established knowledge and develop new ones.

The course is organized modularly in face-to-face and online blocks and is therefore compatible with the job. As a continuing education course, the course ends after four semesters with the academic degree of Master of Science Continuing Education, MSc (CE). The Institute for Management and Economics in Health Care at UMIT TIROL is responsible for the studies. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Harald Stummer, director of the institute, and the person responsible for the master’s degree, Assoc.-Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Nöhammer, emphasize: “When designing the course, we involved experts from different areas of health and social services as well as potential employers. In addition, a market analysis and in-depth expert interviews were carried out. The result is an attractive, unique and innovative, scientifically based and at the same time application-oriented postgraduate offer.

The Rector of the University of UMIT TIROL, Prof. Dr. Sandra Ückert is convinced that the Master’s degree in Health Care Management (CE) is an attractive addition to the university training program that the UMIT TIROL Health University offers for health professionals. “Over the past few months, the team at the Institute for Management and Economics in Health Care at UMIT TIROL has designed an innovative course of study that provides specialists and managers from the health and social services sector with solid, research-based tools for overcoming current and future challenges “ said Rector Ückert.
