According to a study conducted by the Department of Neurology of the University of Bern and the University Hospital of the Swiss capital, the mechanisms of good rest, connected to the different phases of sleep, would be able to favor the storage of positive experiences by the brain, trying instead to eliminate negative ones. In a search that appeared on Science science would be investigating this issue.

Even if we seem to sleep peacefully, sleep is not always the same, far from it, it is characterized by a series of events that follow one another in distinct cycles. Each cycle lasts approximately an hour and a half and composed of two moments: the phase of sound not REM and that of sonno REM where the eyes move and the body acts as if it were awake. However, the latter occupies only 20% of the entire cycle. In the non-REM phase, on the other hand, there are four other moments: the first two of light sleep, where even a small noise is enough to wake up, and the last two of deep sleep.

The attention of scholars has focused precisely on REM sleep. Here the nervous structure would not work properly as it may happen that there is a difficulty in the processing of emotions linked, for example, toanxiety or fear of a certain period. The study was conducted on animals and allowed to explain how emotional memories are transformed during this phase of sleep. The conclusion is that a sort of mechanism occurs that leads to the discrimination between safety and danger but blocks the overreaction to emotions. If the mechanism does not work properly you can run into excessive fears that increase the appearance of anxiety disorders or even of syndromes from post-traumatic stress. In any case, it is good to remember that while sleeping you still do a cleaning of what should be eliminated from the brain. In fact, with sleep, unnecessary connections are eliminated.
