Have you ever observed the color of your pee? We usually think that urine must be very clear, almost transparent, but it is not always synonymous with health. Let’s find out what the shades of urine depend on and, above all, what colors to worry about
Staying hydrated during hot weather is key, as it can prevent problems like heat stroke.
One way to make sure you’re not dehydrated is to check the urine color. It is customary to think that this must be clear, but it may not be.
In healthy people, yellow urine is actually a sign that the kidneys are working properly to preserve fluids.
If, on the other hand, it is very clear it means that you are drinking more than necessary.
Urine is mostly water and contains chemicals that the body wants to get rid of, and the color of the pee depends on how much and when the fluids are consumed.
A light straw color is considered healthy, it must be neither too light nor too dark.
If your pee is dark in color, you are not drinking enough water, and that you are dehydrated.
Dehydration can cause fatigue, headaches and nausea and can have serious health consequences, especially in children and the elderly, as NHS, Scotland’s public health care service explains.
Your body needs water to maintain healthy organ function, so make sure you drink six to eight glasses a day.
Let’s not forget that the color of the urine could also depend on certain drugs; red or brown urine indicates blood in the urinary tract, resulting from infections, stones in the kidneys or in the bladder, cancer or conditions like the interstitial cystitis and painful bladder syndrome.
If your pee is orange, however, it may be caused by liver disease or a problem with the bile duct.
