How to create an NFT and how to sell it online

by admin

Meme of kittens exchanged as if they were paintings, tweet messi all’asta, collage of images sold for tens of millions of dollars, Art gallery specialized (also in Italy): more or less from the beginning of the year, digital works guaranteed by an Nft, an encrypted certificate protected with the blockchain, they are the phenomenon of the moment, online and even in the real world.

The abbreviation stands for Non-fungible token and it indicates precisely the non-substitutability and uniqueness of the asset, but how do you create a NFT? Above all: how do you sell it, after creating it? It’s simpler than you might think: the steps illustrated in this one tutorial they are the same ones followed by the Italian Tech editorial team to create the NFT of our first homepage, which we have given to Minister Colao during his meeting with our director, Riccardo Luna (video).

First the wallet, then the collection
The first thing to do is to create a wallet, a wallet, inside which keep both your (or your) NFT and the cryptocurrency that you will receive from a possible sale: the most famous and used is MetaMask, but we have found Bitski simpler. However, opening the wallet is not complex: you need an e-mail address, you obviously need to choose a password and then just follow the few instructions on the screen. It is not necessary to buy any Ether, the cryptocurrency of the Ethereum circuit, the most popular and widespread when it comes to Nft.

Once this is done, it’s time to create an NFT: us we relied on OpenSea, one of the few platforms that allow this operation at no cost. From the homepage just click on Create to start the procedure: the first time, the site asks for the matching with the wallet (which is why that is the first thing to do) and allows you to choose a name and a description for the Collection in which the ‘Nft, which will be assigned a random image which can then be edited later.

Subsequently, by clicking on Add New Item, it’s time to choose which image, video, audio clip or 3d model you want to transform into Nft: OpenSea accepts Jpg, Png, Gif, Svg, Mp3, Mp4, Wav, Webm, Ogg, Glb and Gltf files no larger than 40 Mb.

The next phase is that of configuring the digital object being created: the Name, a short Description, a link to a page (which can also be a profile on a social network, a blog or even a podcast), the number of copies that you want to achieve and so on.

What can you do with your Nft
After it is created, the Nft can be gifted (only to someone who has a suitable wallet), shared in the form of a link or on Facebook and Twitter, modified (until the ownership changes hands) and of course put up for sale. To do this, there is the button Sell top right of the page: after the click you can set how many Ether you are willing to accept as payment, if you want to auction or not and how many royalties to keep from the transaction.

Having established all this, all that remains is to wait, remembering that in the case of cryptoart it is not so much the work itself that drives up the price, but the author: unless you’re Jack Dorsey, Beeple or singer Grimes (in short: unless you are a famous character in some way), it is better not to expect big gains. Not immediately, at least.
