This year, Intel has vowed to make progress in the field of display chips. In the second quarter, it announced that it will launch the Intel Arc Alchemist series of GPUs. Although some models of this series of products have entered the notebook market, the products that use its GPUs have been officially launched. Very few, so that the GPU that Intel has tried its best to build has not yet caused a bigger wave. However, I believe that the next release of the independent graphics version will make these GPUs more visible. In order to further promote the upcoming independent display series, Intel chose to announce the test results of the Arc A750 at this time. From the official data, the Arc A750 seems to be able to stabilize the RTX 3060 in the school, which is quite noteworthy.
Intel did not have its own GPU in the past, and Intel’s internal graphics (iGPU) are still used in many computer computers. If the internal graphics are included, Intel has a considerable share in the display chip market. However, this is not enough. While launching the next generation of display chips, Intel also expressed its ambition to enter the independent display market. The new Intel Arc series may become a challenger to the two major forces of AN, or it may join this mining carnival to make a fortune while the cryptocurrency is constantly rising and falling.
Intel’s Arc Alchemist series is currently mainly based on internal graphics, and China’s Lanji has launched entry-level graphics cards with the Arc A380 chip. There is no official agent for sale here in Taiwan, so the impression of this graphics card is the same as the impression of Intel launching data on paper to promote the strength of its own graphics card. “I heard that” is very powerful, but how to use it is a good question. However, since some manufacturers are willing to do it, then Taiwan’s first- and second-tier graphics card manufacturers may move in the near future.
Going back to the Arc A750 score, since Intel has announced the results, it won’t just do one or two games. In the briefing, you can see that Intel is testing five games including “F1 2021”, “Electric Rider 2077”, “Control”, “Forbidden Land 3” and “Fortress Hero”. The control group chose the RTX 3060 graphics card, and the test environment claimed to be set at 1440p for testing. Among the five games, “F1 2021” performed the most dazzlingly, 17% faster than the control group.
However, the Arc A750 is not yet on the market after all, and the driver used must be an internal version. It may be questioned that the driver is specially optimized for the running score, which may not mean that the actual game has the same performance. But even taking into account the perfection of the drive, the theoretical performance gap is not too bad. Therefore, I think the test results are somewhat of a reference. But that’s just the word of the Intel family.
In the past, Intel academician Tom Petersen mentioned the development of Arc graphics driver in an interview. He said that the current focus will be on recent popular games, applications and APIs (such as DX12, Vulkan). After all these are taken care of, there is room to optimize the game or application for the older API. The driver’s focus on new games and new APIs makes perfect sense given that Intel Arc is to be competitive in the shortest time possible. But this also means that Intel needs to spend a lot of time to get the driver level adjusted to be on a par with AN’s two companies.
Going back to the independent display, currently only the ACM-G11 GPU, which is the GPU used as the A380 graphics card, is on the market. Intel will target by the end of the summer, so that using the A750 chip, graphics cards launched by partners can be successfully launched for sale. Specifications for the Arc A750 graphics card include a stripped-down ACM-G10 GPU with 384 EUs, 3072 ALUs, and 12 GB of GDDR6 graphics memory, running on a 192-bit bus at 16 Gbps, with a TGP of around 200W.
The graphics card will be powered by an 8+6 plug, which means that the maximum power consumption of the card is expected to be 300W. To choose the specifications of the power supply, you may need to be rated at 400~450 W or more. If the performance is as official said, better than the US RTX 3060, perhaps the Arc A750 graphics card only needs to be priced a little sweeter, set at $350, and players may be able to flock to it.
