The Böhmetal small train runs leisurely through the landscape – every Sunday all year round from Walsrode in the Lüneburg Heath. On special days, a steam locomotive pulls the wagons.
In the heart of the town of Walsrode, the Böhmetal Kleinbahn journey begins in a southerly direction on a former railway line that has been converted to a narrower track. The museum railway travels comfortably for nine kilometers near the course of the Böhme river, along fields through tranquil villages, past barrows and a corrugated iron station to Altenboitzen.
At the destination station, visitors can stop at a café and start the return journey. On the way, you can also experience in open wagons how locomotives are shunted, switches are set and roads are closed.
The historic wagons from 1895 and 1954 are pulled by one of the three locomotives “Wilde Erika”, “Willem” or “Hermann Löns”. A steam locomotive is used on special holidays.
With the trolley on the narrow-gauge railway
Shortly before Altenboitzen the small train runs over the Jordan, a tributary of the Böhme.
If you want to move around with muscle power, you can book a ride on the bicycle trolley from Hollige. Afterwards, it’s worth visiting the old train station. The corrugated iron building provides an insight into the everyday life of a signalman in times long past, including an old kitchen. Afterwards you can find a place outside and watch the chickens, ducks and geese roam freely.
The support association offers group and school programs from grade 2 onwards on the subject of narrow-gauge railways.

Travel time: about 75 minutes from Walsrode, 45 minutes from Vorwalsrode
Term: The small train runs all year round on Sundays and on public holidays, from April 1st to October 31st only from Vorwalsrode, Hannoversche Straße 66.
The bicycle trolleys run from Hollige from May 1st to October 3rd if booked in advance.
