Pizzaballa: “Temporary solutions are no longer enough in the Holy Land”
“What is happening here, in Israel and Palestine, since October 7, is a watershed and nothing can be as before. What we have understood, first of all, is that we no longer need, above all we no longer want to accept, our people here no longer wants to accept temporary solutions. Neither Israelis nor Palestinians.” This was said by Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Patriarch of Jerusalem, speaking with a video link at the event “The ways to make peace”, organized by Communia, Builders of Peace, Association of Common Goods, Ospti, Our Mother Earth, underway in Rome. “Up until now we have always tried to postpone definitive solutions to a hypothetical future, which do not exist and have never been achieved. Here, the explosion from 7 October, first with the massacres carried out in Southern Israel and then the bombings that we see in Gaza, all this makes us understand that the respective populations are asking for definitive solutions to give solid prospects for the future”, underlined Pizzaballa.
