Juventus sacks Women’s coach Montemurro. Braghin renews until 2027

Dramatic twist at Juventus Women: the Juventus club has in fact decided to relieve Joe Montemurro of his role as coach. This is the official statement: “

Juventus Football Club announces that today – 6 March 2024 – an agreement has been reached with Joe Montemurro according to which, starting today, he will no longer hold the role of coach of the women’s first team.

The entire club would like to thank Joe for the work done in recent years which has led to the conquest of 1 Scudetto, 2 Italian Super Cups and 2 Italian Cups. The technical guidance of the women’s first team is temporarily entrusted to assistant coach Giuseppe Zappella.

Montemurro arrives at Juventus in 2021, with significant international experience in women’s football: two titles in Australia, won with Melbourne City, and one in England, with Arsenal, are his calling card.

In recent years, he has made a great contribution to Juventus in terms of ideas, above all that of proactive football. And then, obviously, of results: her list of successes mentioned previously, and her two excellent participations in the Women’s Champions League in 21/22 and 22/23 should not be forgotten.

Juventus also announces that it has renewed the contract of Stefano Braghin, Women’s Football Director, until 30 June 2027.

Thus Stefano Braghin, Juventus Women’s Football Director: «I thank Joe on behalf of the entire Juventus family for the passion and commitment he has shown since his arrival at Juventus, but we believe that, in the best interests of the Club, an immediate change is necessary. We wish Joe the best in his professional future.

Furthermore, I thank the company for their trust in entrusting me with a new phase of this project which I have been experiencing from the first moment. In full harmony with the club’s strategy, we will work by combining competitiveness and sustainability through the development of young talents and with the support of champions who transfer experience and a sense of belonging to these colours.

Even with the aim of being competitive at the highest levels, as the tradition of our club dictates, for at least two years, qualification in the UWCL and participation in the relevant Group Stage will be our main objectives, together with the valorisation of our young players and to the reopening of a winning cycle as quickly as possible”.
