“Larvicidal treatments fundamental for prevention”

Reports of suspected cases of Dengue in Italy are on the rise, with recent cases being reported in multiple regions including Genoa, Brescia, Busto Arsizio, and Veneto. The Ministry of Health has issued three circulars to raise awareness about Dengue in airports, ports, and local medical facilities.

Dengue fever, caused by the Dengue virus and transmitted through mosquito bites, presents with symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, and a characteristic skin rash. In severe cases, it can lead to hemorrhagic fever.

Dr. Guido Marinoni, president of the Bergamo Medical Association, emphasizes the importance of larvicidal treatments to combat the spread of mosquitoes carrying the virus. He also highlights the involvement of the veterinary profession in disseminating prevention measures to the public.

Dr. Stefano Faverzani, president of the Order of Veterinary Doctors of the province of Bergamo, stresses the importance of using repellents and protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites in both humans and animals. He also advises pet owners to consult their veterinarians for guidance on protecting their pets from mosquito-borne diseases.

As cases of Dengue continue to be reported in Italy, it is crucial for individuals to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection. By staying informed and following the recommended guidelines, the spread of Dengue can be minimized.
